My name is Chris Smith and I am currently in my 5th year of seminary. This year of seminary is called a pastoral year which is like an internship. I am at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Georgetown and I am loving every minute of it!
I grew up in College Station, TX which depending on what part of the diocese you live in, you might love that we have a bunch of Aggie priests or you wish we had a few more Longhorn and Baylor Bear priests! The solution to that friendly rivalry, is to keep praying for vocations!
I grew up playing soccer and I loved camping with the Boy Scouts. I have two beautiful sisters, one older and the other younger. My family is very supportive of my journey towards priesthood and I am blessed by their love and prayers.
I studied marketing at Texas A&M University and graduated in 2010. While at A&M I loved being involved with the campus ministry and drawing closer to Christ and other young Catholics. After graduating I served three years with NET Ministries which is a Catholic non-profit organization based out of St. Paul, MN. While serving with NET, I traveled across the US for one year putting on Catholic Church retreats for junior high and high school students. It was during my time with NET that God helped me strengthen my prayer life. I learned to spend quiet time with Jesus each day. During that quiet time, God stirred in my heart a desire to become a priest. So after talking with my family, friends, and a few priests about my desire to be a priest, I took a step in faith and entered seminary.
I spent two years at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas and then I spent the last two years at the North American College in Rome. One day, when I am a priest, I look forward to celebrating the Sacraments and letting all of God's people know how much He loves them!
Thank you for your prayers and support!
